Souvenir of the North American Indians as they were in the middle of the 19th century [graphic], 1852 [i.e. between 1852 and ca. 1860].

217 mounted and matted pencil portraits of individual North American Indians, together with penned descriptions for each in Catlin's handwriting which identify the individuals and their tribal affiliations. Originally bound in two volumes with a ms. title-page dated at London, 1852, the drawings could not have been completed until after 1855 when Catlin returned from his travels to the Northwest and Southwest.
